FESCUE GRASS SOD INSTALLATION
Fescue grass is a cool season grass that can endure very cold temperatures, while still keeping its pretty, deep-green color. Fescue grasses are easily established on bare ground and can be used anywhere dense turf is desired, which is why it is often used in erosion control applications. Many turf-type Fescue grasses will have finer blades and more vigorous root systems. These lawns will want more frequent mowing than standard Fescue grasses to ensure a lush and even turf surface. Depending on the variety of Fescue, the regular grass height should be maintained from 2” tall to 3-1/2” tall.
The easy maintenance requirements are part of what make Fescue grasses so desirable. Fescue lawns require less mowing, water, and fertilizer, which help to make it environmentally friendly. To keep your Fescue lawn looking great, it's usually necessary to aerate and overseed Fescue lawns in the fall - sometime between mid-September and mid-October. Fertilization can be done in the cool winter months, before temperatures start to rise.
