Zoysia grasses have a very deep green color, and are a favorable choice for lawns due to their dense growing, carpet-like look and feel. Zoysia is resistant to weed invasion, due to its thick growth and deep roots, and can even grow in clay soils, as well as other soils with less site preparation than other grasses. Zoysia holds up to heavy use quite well and easily repairs damaged and worn areas rather quickly. Zoysia can even help stop erosion on slopes or other high-eroding areas.
Zoysia grows upward very slowly, because of its mostly lateral growth, which allows it to be cut less frequently – many lawns can go up to a month between cuts. Zoysia thrives in extreme heat and is very drought tolerant, requiring very little water after the initial installation, which can drastically cut down on water bills. Ideal for full sun, Zoysia is also shade tolerant, and can also withstand snow and cold temperatures very well. Zoysia will go dormant after the first killing frost, but comes back green faster than most other grasses in the Spring.
Zoysia is naturally resistant to pets and disease, which reduces the need to expose family members, pets, and the environment to chemicals, making it very eco-friendly. Zoysia is also more tolerant to animal waste than other grasses, though constant/extreme exposure to animal waste will need to be treated to level the pH balance in the grass.
